Chess playing robots are nothing new. We have seen a bunch of them built with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and other platforms. Wizard Chess is a Pi driven chess set that moves the pieces automatically. Bethanie Fentiman based this project on this guide.

Two 28BYJ-48 stepper motors, a 4tronix PiStep board, and bunch of gears and other components were used to complete this project. As you might have guessed, the pieces are magnetic.
