Lockheed Martin has introduced a new exoskeleton to help soldiers carry heavy equipment over rough terrain. The FORTIS Knee Stress Release Device (K-SRD) is a computer controlled exoskeleton that counteracts stress on the lower back and legs, boosting leg capacity for repetitive or continuous demanding tasks.
FORTIS K-SRD makes it easy for soldiers to lift, drag, and climb with heavy loads. It has military batteries approved for infantry use. The sensors on the device report each user’s speed, direction and angle of the movement to an on-board computer, which controls the actuators at the knees.
