Traveling across the country can be lots of fun, but for long trips, you are going to need a way to keep your food fresh. The BODEGA T50 is a dual-zone freezer and refrigerator that can be powered by your car or a portable power station. It has two independently controlled zones with a divider that can be removed to turn the entire unit into a freezer. The good folks at Bodegacooler were kind enough to send us one to test. Let’s see what was included.
The BODEGA T50 came very well packed. It is a real freezer, so you shouldn’t expect it to be as lightweight as non-electric coolers. It also comes with home and car adapters. Unlike the other model we tested, this one has wheels, so you can easily move it around when it is filled. The handles are multi-functional, so you can also use them to lift this cooler. Inside, you can find two removable baskets.
The T50 has a sleek control panel that lets you change the temperature for each zone. The refrigerator part has a minimum temperature of 14°F, while the freezer section can go as low as -4°F. The max temperature is 68°F. If you remove the divider, this becomes one larger freezer, and the bottom screen turns off. You can use the buttons on the control panel to change the temperature unit, switch from ECO to MAX mode, and set the battery protection level (Low/Medium/High).
This portable freezer has a light, so you can find your things in the dark. Its zones have 30QT and 23QT capacity. We stored fish/chicken meat, fruits, water, and bread in them and saw no issues. It worked well on its own but we found it even more convenient with the Car Fridge Freezer app. It lets you set max and min temperatures for the freezer, change battery protection level, and see the current temperature. The connection process took us less than 30 seconds.
We powered this freezer with our car and a BLUETTI EB3A power station with no issues. It is also possible to use a solar power station. It has enough capacity for many bottles and food items but fits on the passenger seat or in the trunk of our Subaru. We were able to put this in our backyard in 100°F outdoor conditions and control it from an air-conditioned room. The connection was surprisingly stable. When you remove the divider, the app is smart enough to automatically detect full-freezer mode. You have the option to turn off the left zone by holding the – and + buttons on the unit for 15 seconds.
The cleaning process was also straightforward. You will have to unplug the fridge and drain it through the hole under it. As for the modes, you should use the High battery protection level in your car and the other two when you are using a portable power station. We were able to lift the T50 by its handles but it is much more convenient to just roll it on the ground. It works well on grass and gravel.
We found this freezer to be quite versatile. It has plenty of space but fits in a standard-size car. You can find a USB port on the control panel that can be used to charge your smartphone. We were able to power two BODEGA coolers with a single BLUETTI EB3A power station. There is a lock function that you can activate with a tap in the app.
Overall, this fridge/freezer combo is quite handy. You can use it in your RV, car, and anywhere else you need cooling. It is even a great backup fridge just in case your main fridge goes bad. It works very well without the app and even better with it. The wheels make it easy to move heavy loads around. The noise level is low enough to be drowned out by nature sounds. If you are looking for a dual-zone freezer and fridge for your camping trips and other adventures, you should give this one a serious look.
