Rain lamps used to be very popular a few decades ago. They were made in various sizes and designs but all work very similarly. You simply have to get the right mineral oil to get the best rain effect. The CQ Concepts Mineral Oil is one of the best we have tested. It is Drakeol 35 equivalent, so you get that smooth, trippy rain effect with your lamps. This is unscented and not UV reactive (unlike a few others we have tested).

To get started, simply add a pint of oil, and give the lamp a couple of minutes to get going. If you don’t see the rain effect, you should add a bit more oil. You should not add too much oil as that could cause issues for the pump.
