Google Glass, Atheer, Recon, and meta glasses all have potential. But some of them are way too expensive at this time. These companies are not going to be the only smart glasses makers. Take the iOptik system by Innovega. It is a special contact lens system that can read from projectors added to glasses and provides wearers a brilliant augmented reality experience.
The lens and eyeglasses combine to offer the wear with display equivalent to a 240-inch television viewed at a distance of 10 feet. The system can project glance-like displays. We will have to wait a bit to experience these but the future for smart glasses and lenses looks bright.
