So you are looking for new ways to light up your stairs? Lorraine Underwood has managed to do so with NeoPixel strips. These lights use weather data to let you know how warm it is. The temperature is checked every five minutes and visualized through 240 lights. A Raspberry Pi Zero is used to control them.

The lights turn on in different colors depending on the temperature outside. You can find out more about this project here.
