The PufferBot was designed by ATLAS Institute researchers. It is a quadcopter with a plastic shield that expands in size to form a robotic airbag to prevent collision with humans.

PufferBot has an airbag made of plastic hoops that are fastened to its top and can inflate from 20 to 33 inches in diameter. When danger is close, PufferBot puffs up to cover the spinning rotors and keep them away from obstacles.
