The Galton board is a wonderful tool for teaching probability and statistics concepts. It was invented by Sir Francis Galton for central limit theorem demonstration. It is also known as the bean machine or quincunx. We have already covered small desktop Galton boards here. The Quincunx WD-7 Lightning Calculator is the largest one we have gotten our hands on.

The WD-7 has a movable funnel and 3 gates which hold the bead distributions in place. It also has a plexiglass cover, so you won’t use the beads. You can lock the gates in place or simply allow the beads to fall from the top to the bottom. The Quincunx also has a kickstand to hold the device as you use it. It is heavy enough to stay put but it’s also built like a tank.
