Meet StarlETH: a dog robot with 12 actuators and about 50 sensors that can negotiate rough terrain automatically. The robot is programmed to balance itself step by step. It plans where to step on the ground and keeps its balance in the process. The robot has integrated springs that work like muscles and tendons in humans and animals.
StarlETH is capable of performing dynamic walking and trotting. It can also move around on uneven surfaces without losing its balance. ETH Zurich has the full story.
