We have covered a couple of interesting waterproof drones for consumers in the past. The Office of Naval Research is looking for something more sophisticated though. We are talking about a drone that can fly through the air and navigate underwater to help with search & rescue operations, monitor oil spills, and even defuse underwater mines.
Rutgers University has been awarded a grand to develop this drone. As Javier Diez, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, explains, such drones can identify threats and save lives. Rutgers has the full story.
