Everybody knows that magnets are fun. They are not only great for science experiments in classrooms but can also be used to build all kinds of fun toys, including those that can create the illusion of perpetual motion. The Swinging Sticks kinetic sculpture happens to be one of those. These were made in multiple sizes, including a desktop version that we covered here a while back. They feature two aluminum rods that swing and rotate to create chaotic patterns. The base has a hidden electromagnetic mechanism.
The rods have neodymium magnets that interact with the magnetic field. The Swinging Sticks Desktop Replica Version is a more affordable version. In fact, we had a chance to compare it to the regular desktop version, which is a bit bigger. It has a cover for the batteries and smaller feet. It is slightly smaller than the original model but works the same way. Ours has a red base.
