We have covered plenty of fantastic robots in the past. The Snake Monster happens to be a hexapod robot with modular actuators from the Biorobotics Lab’s snake robot project, at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. Here is how it works:
The series-elastic actuators in each joint allow simultaneous position-velocity-torque control, enabling compliant motions using a simple alternating-tripod walking gait.
As you can see in the below video, the robot is capable of moving like a spider but is sophisticated enough to handle an uneven terrain.
This would make a cute robotic pet if it were a tad bit smarter, don’t you think?
