Robots are going to do many things for us in the future. They are already capable of charging electric vehicles. Take Mercedes-Benz’s Intelligent Charging Robot for instance: made in partnership with Flexiv and IONCHI, Mercedes-Benz has automated EV charging via iOS and Android apps. This charging station detects a car approaching to automatically unlock the charging bay. Its intelligent park pilot maneuvers the car into the right position automatically.
This charging system relies on LiDAR to track each vehicle’s position in real-time. It relies on a Rizon adaptive robot to open the charge port hatch and uses 3D AI vision to detect obstructions. This charging system has 9 degrees of freedom. With 800V charging, drivers get up to 230 miles range with a 10 minute charge.
