The Square Off is one of the most popular electronic chessboards due to its robotic movement. Chess robots have been around for a long time. The Milton Bradley Grandmaster goes all the way back to 1983. The Chesster Phantom Eyeball 6126 Talking Chess Robot has a similar design but was introduced in the early 1990s. It is built like a tank and still works well after all these years.

We recently had the chance to get our hands on a Chesster Phantom Eyeball robot which was well taken care of by its previous owner. It has a press sensory board and various buttons on it for setup. You can use them to start a new game, get a hint, and activate the auto-play mode. The Phantom 6126 Chesster has an estimated rating of 2100. It has a presence sensor built-in. It has 24 levels. Its vocabulary is a bit limited but still fun to listen to.
