The Chessnut Go and Chessnut Pro are two of our favorite chessboards. They are the smallest and largest Chessnut boards, respectively. These boards work with a variety of apps, including ChessBase, Arena, and various mobile apps. You can also use the standard apps for them to play against Maia, LC0 and Stockfish. The fun part is when you combine them with a DGT Pi to play against old and new engines on a Raspberry Pi.
The Chessnut Go has a compact, magnetic design, which means you can move the board from one room to another without the pieces falling over. The Chessnut Pro has premium wooden pieces. It is a tournament-size board, so it is about the same size as large DGT boards that are used at tournaments around the world. Both models have hidden LEDs underneath the board to let you know where to move the pieces.

Stockfish 18 is going to be rolled out to many of these chessboards in the future. You don’t have to wait as it is already possible to download and use it with ChessBase and Arena. Simply connect the board to a computer running it via a cable, download the right drivers to connect your Chessnut board, and the rest is easy. Not surprisingly, Stockfish 18 crushed Leela in our test, even with an inferior book. It is incredibly strong, so don’t expect any engine to be able to put a fight against it.
