The Cubli shouldn’t need any introduction. It is a self-balancing, programming cube that can jump up, move, and balance itself. This Single-point Self Balancing Cube is inspired by that project. It can keep its balance on a side or single point. It has an OLED display that gives you feedback on the 0 balance point.
This cube also has an Android app for further configuration. The above video shows it in action. These robots are balanced using a reaction wheel. The idea is to use angular momentum to fight gravity and maintain balance. When the robot detects a tilt using its gyroscope, it spins the wheel in the opposite direction. This spinning creates a torque that counteracts the tilt, helping the object stay upright. These cubes have a controller that adjusts speed to maintain balance.
