AI is becoming a big part of our lives. Lots of us rely on it at work or school to become more productive. Many LLMs can transcribe and summarize audio with incredible accuracy, saving their users lots of time in the process. The Viaim RecDot is a smart pair of earbuds that combines with GPT-5, Claude and other models to record and transcribe your meetings and calls. The good people behind it were kind enough to send us one to test:

Our RecDot shipped in a very compact package. The silver version we received looks very sleek right out of the box, but there is a black version available too. These earbuds ship with 4 pairs of soft eartips (XS, S, M, L) as well as a USB-C charging cable. The first thing we noticed when opening the charging case was the FlashRecord button. This is the feature that lets you use your earbuds to record a meeting while they are in the case. You also have the option to press one of the sensors on them to record your calls.

The charging case holds your earbuds and keeps them charged through a magnetic interface. It has a button on the back that you can hold to initiate pairing. RecDot supports a wide variety of shortcuts that you can modify in the app. For example, you can press once or twice to play, switch mode, and start/stop recording. You can increase or decrease volume with a slide. For pairing, we simply had to put the earbuds in the charging case, long press the button on the back, turn on Bluetooth on our phone, and initiate the connection. The app shows remaining battery life and various other features, including recording, voice control, AI, and EQ settings.

RecDot supports dual device connection, which means you will be able to connect to 2 devices simultaneously. The app shows which device you are connected to, allowing you to change devices with a tap. It also keeps track of past connection history. We were able to connect them to all our favorite devices, including the LattePanda Iota, which is a single-board computer.

RecDot is advertised as having 48 dB active noise cancellation. We tested it in a couple of loud environments, including windy conditions and found the noise cancellation mode to be impressive. There is also a Transparency mode for those of you who want to stay aware of your surroundings. For noise cancellation, you can go with Auto mode or choose a level from low to high. You also get two modes in Transparency mode.
You get various EQ settings to choose from to maximize your listening experience. In most cases, we prefer the Balance option, but Pop, Treble Boost, Electronic, Dance and PUBG mode are also available. There is even a Custom section for more advanced users. Users also have the option to turn on “Game Mode,” which has lower latency. The app has a Find My Earbuds function, allowing you to activate a sound to find your misplaced RecDot buds.

The most impressive part about these earbuds is their seamless integration with top AI models for transcription. For starters, you get two ways to record your conversations. You can either press the sensor on one of the buds or put them in the case and press the button on it. For FlashRecording, you can go with the Auto mode, in which the earbuds’ recordings are stored in the app automatically when they are connected. Otherwise, data is stored on the earphones.

RecDot can record calls, lectures, and everything in between. It has various models for you to choose from, including GPT-4.1, GPT-5, and Claude 3.7. Pro users get Sonnet 4, o3, and Gemini 2.5 Pro, which are better for deep thinking, complex scenarios, and ultra-long context respectively. The Pro and Ultra Plans come with 1800 and unlimited transcription minutes, respectively. Free users get 600 minutes of transcription to get started. We went with Claude 3.7 and didn’t regret it. It did a decent job transcribing English and foreign-language conversations.
RecDot supports 78 languages. We tested it with Japanese, Persian, Spanish, and English. We used the app to keep up with transcription in real-time, which is possible with the Live Translation and Recording function. RecDot also had no trouble recording and transcribing our calls to ChatGPT. The translation feature is quite handy. You can speak in one language and the earbuds play the translation in another. That makes it possible to have a seamless conversation with someone who doesn’t speak a word of your favorite language.
When recording and translating at the same time, the text in the original language appears in the top window and the translation appears in the bottom window. That means even someone who is not wearing one of these earbuds can follow the conversation. If you are wearing them, you will be able to hear the translation. We tested this feature with Persian to English and found the translation to be quite accurate. The app also gives you access to summaries and mind maps, which are handy when you are recording a lecture in college or business settings.

RecDot earbuds are incredibly smart. For example, they have an in-ear sensor to detect when you put them on to autoplay or pause. You can also wear your earbuds to take a call without pushing a button. Even the voice commands don’t require a wake word. Just say “Play Music” or “Volume Up/Down” to make changes hands-free. When you are just getting started, you are walked through an eartip fit test to get the best listening experience possible. The range is also quite impressive. We managed to maintain the connection with our earbuds on one side of our backyard and our phone on the other.
Overall, we were very impressed with the Viaim RecDot earbuds. For starters, they are very comfortable to wear. They are incredibly smart when paired with an LLM. They let you enjoy your audio content in peace with noise cancellation, record conversations, and transcribe long lectures. They also let you communicate with others who don’t speak your language. If you are looking for an earbud-form AI-powered gadget that transcribes, translates in real-time, and records your conversation, you should give these earbuds a serious look.
