Meet the MPI Cable Simulator: a cable-driven parallel robot capable of moving humans around, enhancing their virtual reality experience. The motion of the simulator cabin is controlled by 8 steel cables attached to winches. Such a motion simulator can be used for driving/flight simulation and other VR applications.

The simulator has programmable trajectories in 6 dimensions. It consists of a high power winch system to provide high acceleration up to 1.5g. There is also a wireless onboard virtual reality system. More info can be found on Fraunhofer IPA’s channel.
