The Chessnut EVO is on of our favorite smart chessboards. It has a 12.3-inch Android tablet on the side that gives you access to engines, Lichess, Chess.com, and other features. While it doesn’t have Google Play Store installed, you can still use third-party apps such as Play Magnus and Dr. Wolf. You will just have to access Aptoide or Aurora to install packages.
We were able to install a wide variety of chess apps on our Evo. In order for the board to recognize third party apps, you will have to enable Chessnut Vision through the Accessibility section. Once that is enabled, the board will recognize your moves on its tablet for most apps. With apps such as Dr. Wolf, you get training with voice feedback. There are other apps that test your puzzle solving skills. Before downloading a third party app, you will want to do your homework and get only trusted packages.
