Playing piano can be a lot of fun. Learning piano is not that hard but mastering it takes a lot of time and effort. The Projected Instrument Augmentation system can help. Designed by Katja Rogers and Amrei Röhlig and their colleagues at the University of Ulm in Germany, PIANO helps novices improve their skills. As you can see in the above GIF, the system shows which fingers you need to use to play the right notes. The system highlights incorrect notes played in red.

  1. It tickles me that the NS writers compare it to “Rock Band 3” – if they’d bothered to do their research they would have found Synthesia to be a far better representation of what existing software looks like…

    (Bonus: it takes MIDI files, so with the aid of a notation editor, you can print out the score for if you’d like to learn what it looks like in conventional sheet music)
