Meet the RoboSimian robot: a four-limbed disaster response robot designed to negotiate rough terrain and perform dexterous tasks. The robot relies on a LiDAR device to map its environment in 3D. Such a solution could be useful when dealing with a disaster situation too dangerous for humans to participate.
This ape-shaped robot has 7 sets of stereo cameras and 4 limbs to see its environment and manipulate things. It could prove quite useful in case of a disaster. It participated in the DARPA Robotics Challenge Finals at the Fairplex in Pomona, California.
