Vermeer is a touchable hologram display by Microsoft that shows a lot of promise. It is based on an optical illusion concept that makes objects float in the open. Microsoft Research has included a light field projector and diffuser in a mirascope capable of rendering 3000 or so images per second. You can interact with holograms as well.
