In the future, robots will perform complex surgeries and many other tasks at hospitals. In fact, they are already being used to better serve patients and make life easier for clinicians. Mikoto is a medical simulation robot designed for training. Medical venture Tmsuk R&D Inc. & Tottori University Hospital unveiled this robot for young doctors and emergency workers. It facilitates hands-on training without risk of harming real humans.
Mikoto is programmed to respond according to a sensor installed in its throat. It is designed for endotracheal intubation and gastrointestinal endoscopy. Students get a score at the end of each practice to keep them honest. The Japan Times has more on the story here.
